Forest L. Straley was a carpenter and lifelong resident of Goldthwaite, Texas. Flossie Straley Kelly was a saleswoman and licenced vocational nurse who lived in Miles County all her life. Arthur W. 	2. John B. STRALEY (b. 21 Feb 1885, MillCtyTX; d. 8 Feb 1941, Waco, McLeCtyTX; Find-A-Grave 135382871, TX) Laura L. (or S.) ? (b. c. 1894, IL) - her parents were born in Arkansas. Notes: John B. Straley does not show up a census as part of this family. He shows up in 1930, estimated birth year at 1890, TX, a barber and married to "Laura S." who is 11 years older than him. In the 1940 Waco census his estimated birth year is 1879, TX, a barber and married to "Laura L.", who is three years older than him. It also says he only attended school through the 6th grade. It's also curious that his father is listed as "F. W. Straley" on this certificate of death. His mother is Mary Elizabeth Van Dyke.  It is possible that Laura, his wife and the informant, Mrs. Laura Straley, mixed up the names of Mary's two first husbands. To add confusion to the mix. The US. City Directories for Waco in 1933 his spouse is "Laura", but in 1934, his spouse is "Verna". There is also record that John Straley was in prison at Huntsville Prison in Texas. He is listed as born 1889 in Texas, convicted on 25 Nov 1925 for something to do with liquor. He received 1 to 1/2 years. He was from Waco. His sentence expired on 11 Aug 1928. He was convicted again in 1931 for "Unlawful possession of intoxicating liquor, for purpose of sale". He got two more years, sentence expiration set a 27 Mar 1933.  Another prison note says he was discharged on 12 Apr 1932. I am not sure what kind of man John B. Straley was, but he spent time in jail for something nobody would go to jail for these days. He became a barber in Waco Texas, working at Palm Barber Shop. C. S. Straley, below, was also a barber.
